Past Events
Adelaide Film Festival
10 – 21 October 2018
Bakala the Film will feature as part of the Adelaide Film festival this October. Adelaide Film Festival (ADL Film Fest) is an eleven-day celebration and exploration of Australian and international screen culture with a unique program of screenings, forums and special events.
The event has rapidly established itself as one of the boldest and most innovative in the country and has made a name for itself internationally as a platform for exciting new talent in the Australian industry. Originally presented biennially in March, since 2013 the Adelaide Film Festival has been presented in October.
Bakala will be screening on October 14th and 20th. Check out their website for session and ticket information.
Northern Territory Travelling Film Festival
May – July 2018
Bakala the Film will feature as part of the Northern Territory Travelling Film Festival (NTTFF). The NTTFF is a curated two hour and ten minute program of Northern Territory shorts made up of established and emerging filmmakers showcasing the breadth of stories of the region.
Travelling with a solar powered screen the tour will visit remote Indigenous communities, as well as key NT iconic sites creating special open air cinemas under the stars.

Darwin International Film Festival
8.30pm Sunday 17th September 2017
We are thrilled to announce that Bakala the Film will be screened publicly as part of the BEST OF TERRITORY SHORTS program showcasing 4 new short films made in the NT. Bakala the man will also be there to talk to people.

Gilbert+Tobin staff screening – Sydney
Tuesday 19th September 2017
Gilbert+Tobin’s employees are invited to an exclusive private lunchtime screening of Bakala the Film. G+T’s Probono practice has been supporting the MJD Foundation for many years.
Bakala is flying from Groote Eylandt to be in Sydney to share his story. There will be a short panel discussion after the 15 minute screening with Bakala, the MJD Foundation, and the film makers.
Cocktail Event – Private Screening
Tuesday 19th September 2017
Gilbert+Tobin is hosting an exclusive private evening screening of Bakala the Film. Hosted by Tom Calma, this is an important event to raise awareness of Machado Joseph Disease and its devastating effects in remote Aboriginal communities in Australia. Bakala will be there from Groote Eylandt to tell his story.
